Preparation Tips

Be Ready Before You Begin

Smart preparation makes the difference. These tips will save you time, money, and avoidable complications during your pilot training.

Budget Planning

Plan your finances early. CPL training costs range from INR 35–90 lakhs depending on country and school.

  • Research education loans well in advance
  • Compare India vs abroad cost differences
  • Keep 10–15% buffer for unexpected costs
  • Forex rates affect international school costs

Medical Preparation

Aviation medicals are strict. Prepare your health before visiting the DGCA-authorised examiner.

  • Maintain 6/6 vision — avoid screen strain
  • Keep blood pressure in normal range
  • Avoid caffeine before medical exam day
  • Colour blindness may affect eligibility

Visa Readiness

Start your visa process early — some countries have longer processing times than others.

  • Apply for passport at least 6 months early
  • Philippines visa is fastest (rolling intake)
  • USA / Canada need 3–6 months processing
  • Aviate assists with full documentation

DGCA Exam Strategy

All 5 DGCA subjects must be cleared before CPL. Start studying early — do not underestimate Navigation and Technical.

  • Join structured coaching — self-study alone is hard
  • Navigation is the toughest subject — start early
  • Mock tests are critical for exam preparation
  • Aviate offers guided DGCA ground classes

Flying School Research

Not all flying schools are equal. Research fleet age, instructor experience, weather windows, and pass rates before committing.

  • Check fleet condition (age of training aircraft)
  • Look for strong weather windows (Philippines is ideal)
  • Verify DGCA / FAA / CASA approval status
  • Aviate pre-vetted all recommended schools

Start Earlier Than You Think

The biggest mistake aspiring pilots make is waiting too long. Every month of delay costs time and potentially money as school fees change.

  • Ideal start age: 17–22 years
  • Start counselling immediately after 12th results
  • Medical fitness declines with age — act early
  • Airline hiring favours younger CPL holders
